2000 Echo Towing Capacity?

Anyone have any idea what the towing capacity of an Echo would be? I have been unable to find anything on the net except for an Austrailian site indicating 700kg (or about 1500lbs) but even that seems high to me. I know I had 400lbs of rock salt in the trunk recently and it was VERY noticble that the trunk was loaded.

I don't know about the Austrailian spec ECHO's but I'm sure its not much different than the others in that this car wasn't and isn't intended to pull anything. You will ruin your transmission, chassie and what not. Toyota doesn't reconmend you pulling anything with the ECHO. It's just not designed for that. But in the end its up to you and you may prove me wrong. Good luck!

The Canadian brochures list the towing weight rating at about 700lbs as I recall for the hatch. The dealer sells the hitches and harnesses as well. The hitch was reasonable, but the harnesses were nearly a $500 part. I wouldn't want to haul over distance, but for a little move around town it should be alright. I've considered finding a 4x4 for taking parts from my supra to various shops before, but carrying an engine there would be bumping the maximum weight rating.

I agree with what you have said echo but just like in the echo manual my Yaris manual says not to pull anything around either but then it says you can I dont know why they even bother I would just put NO PULLING ANYTHING
