Unhappy Poor radio reception

'05 Echo, basic AM/FM radio that came installed by Toyota. I get lousy reception with this radio, I need to know if this is the usual case (cheap radio?) or if I should take it to the dealer (still under warranty). My previous car (Geo Metro) got much better reception - more stations, stronger signal pull - comparing in the same geographical area.

The antenna had been stuck inside the body but is now all the way out. Reception is better than before, so the problem shouldn't be the antenna. I also checked to see if it is well-attached to the radio and it seems to be.

How is your reception?

Thanks,
Jerry

I've gone through several Alpine unit and they all had good am/fm reception. Granted, the car's antenna still has to be intact.

Radio reception

When the antenna was stuck down, I couldn't get any stations. Now that it is extended, I can get some stations well so it must be intact, but I can't get the statons i used to get on my Geo's radio and, in certain areas, I get no AM stations at all (again, unlike the Geo radio).

I'm interested in what owners of the stock radio are getting in the way of reception. Is it a bad sign that the only responses I've gotten (here and at another webiste's forum) are from users of after-market radios?

Jerry

I'm happy with my Yaris's AM/FM reception (CD unit on 5dr LE and silver in color). However, I do live in a big city and there's plethora of radio stations to be had with very good carriers. When I do lock into a good station, music quality is almost as good as the CD (which might not be a good thing if you're used to a highend system....like the one in my old Civic)
