Turbo

I was wondering if anyone knows if you can put a turbo kit in the Echo. I am aware that the Scion, two of them don't know which ones off the top of my head, have the same engine as the Echo. Would that kit fit or would I have to get one that is specially made for the echo...

Thanks... but it still doesn't answer my question. I need to know if a) they have a turbo made for my car/engine or b) if the turbo they make for the scions with the 1nzfe engine will fit my car which also has the 1nzfe engine.

You might get a scion kit to fit, but there are risks such as hood clearance, and the engine management depending on what the kit uses. It may work, it may not. Bolting up is the least of your battle. Engine management after is!

Oh so your looking for a bolt on turbo kit. I would suggest you do some reading, piece together your own kit. Not only will you gain knowledge and the possibility of fixing it if any problem arises but you would not only save money but get better parts then the ones used in the kits.

You swap several housings until you get the ideal characteristics for your needs...

Not quite, but it is a bit of a black art given exhaust gas flow and volume is much more difficult to determine than intake air. In general, the smaller the A/R, the quicker the spool, but the quicker it will also hit the point the exhaust housing chokes off the flow. The larger the AR, the longer it takes to make boost, but the more it can flow and the higher the hp potential up to the point the engine can't spool it at all because it needs more exhaust gasses. Ideally, when in doubt I suggest choosing the middle of the road A/R after choosing an ideal compressor size. From there, you can tune it and decide how well it works for you, and if you were way off, you can choose a slightly smaller or larger A/R housing and swap it down the road. They aren't terribly expensive. Key being get your compressor right first.

for the echo hatch, there was a supercharger available. It was made for the JDM cars, and Toyota's TTE group used it in the european cars. You might be able to pick one up, with a couple of caveats: The hood is an issue. North American engine mounts moved the engine higher in the bay, and the SC hits the hood. The electronics that came with the kit may not work with our computer, requiring a standalone or serious set of piggyback computers to tune it.

RE: Supercharger

Ok... I have some friends working the issue but I'll prolly just end up building my own supercharger... The engin is getting balanced and a solid mount built for it so I don't think that shall be a problem... should it????

As long as your supercharger clears the hood, I don't think there should be any problem.

FYI, originally Toyota Team Europe (TTE which is pretty much TRD of Europe) came out with a supercharger-kit for the Echo (aka Yaris) hatchback, and that roots-supercharger was originally developed by Blitz. A Japanese tuner called Yashio placed a Blitz supercharger into an Echo hatchback (called the Vitz over there) and boosted it to around 160hp and about 160tq, which is pretty good.

JDM Toyota also came out with a Vitz RS Turbo, so yeah the Echo hatchback did come with a stock turbo version, but it's not available in North America obviously.

So you got quite a few options if you wanna take the Echo to the next level
