The ECU

Hey evryone,

I am writing here primarilly for the yaris guys (i believe the echo ECU is more primitive).

I have a turbocharged xA (obviously with the 64 bit nightmare computer in it) and i have a few questions for all the forced induction guys.

My setup is as follows:

JDM Greddy Kit for bB (log manifold, 14g turbo, intercooler, airnix intake upgrade)
Turbonetics Raptor recirculating BOV and mechanical boost controller
tC fuel injectors
NGK plugs (one step colder, stock gap of .032)

...and for tuning, the fairly new A'PEXi NEO

Now here are my observations and what i have found.
As we all know, the computer will constantly do whatever it has to do to reach a stoich level of 14.7 a/f ratio. No matter what i did with the NEO, the car would seem to overcome the changes within a couple of days and i would consistantly battle with closed/ open loop.

until i through a CEL for p0172 (running too rich).

Since then, i have found that with the CEL on, the car STOPS adjusting the fuel tables. It no longer seems to trim them for the excess fuel, and i have managed to retain all settings.

My question is, have any of you guys found a way to tune the vehicle without a CEL?

The only other thing i managed to do which would last for each indivivual ride, was a placed a 15amp switch on the wiring before the efi fuse (in the event there was any type of voltage spike), and i ran the wiring inside of the car. Whenever i would park somewhere, i would flip the switch and reset the short tearm fuel tables. This works AWSOME at first, but like i said, it would always end up compensating after 100 miles or so.

Any input, questions or suggestions?

Thanks.

Yikes, what tuning management are you using? Can you list all the mods? And I suggest something better then a Neo. Its not suggested to tune your car by the A/F controller. Try e-manage or standalone or others.

standalone is out of the question, i want to pass state inspection.
e-manage will do essentially the same thing (modify maf reading to fool computer into dropping more fuel)
Apexi is much more compact, and gives you 16 points of adjustment. The unit works fantastic, but throws a CEL (which i can live with since i have a toggle on the efi computer anyways, so i could reset it and turn my correction off on the neo for inspection).

I was simply curious if anyone has managed to tune the car WITHOUT a CEL under higher boost levels, but most

full list of engine mods:
Greddy 14g turbo/ log manifold/ downpipe
Greddy Airnix Intake
Greddy Upgraded Front Mount
Turbnetics raptor BOV
Turbonetics mechanical boost controller
Custom intercooler piping (2")
tC fuel injectors
NGK plugs (one step codler than stock)
Koyo dual core racing radiator
Killer Glass upper radiator hose (essentially better than any silicone hose in the snese it doesent expand)
TRD 1.3k cap
...and of course the neo.

Im still trying to get it on the dyno this week to provide some numbers, and i am also going to pick up the new greddy V-Manage to control vvt-i

Switch back to stock ECM before emission testing.

Fuel management is a complex issue that I wouldn't true a Neo to tune with.

The Neo will have issues with your stock ECM at closed loops but I don't think it should have any problems at WOT.

I still think Standalone like Hydra and AEM are a good for fuel management.

Good luck on the tune.

And do you have a wastegate? Because I don't see it being listed.

the 14g has an internal single flap gate with a 5lb spring. At this point there is really no need to upgrade it yet.

I agree that stand alones are great, but again, its a daily driver. not exactly the most practical thing to do, but then again, neither is turboing a 1.5
