Okay, I might not be able to get the Taco like I want to, so I figure, f I can't get what I want, I might as well get something that's awesome on gas. Prius! Nope, costs more than the Taco (the way I built them). Okay, next best, Yaris.
Is it really as bad as people say it is. It's a Toyo, so it's gotta be great. I know a million mechanics that are strictly Ford/Chevy?mopar guys and they all agree that a Toyo will last you longer than anything else. Plus, the 1st and 2nd most reliable manufacturers (based on a consumer reports study on number of problems per 100 cars) are Lexus (Toyota motor co.) and Toyota, respectivly, with (IIRC) 17-22 problems per 100 cars. It may be less I saw the report a long time ago.
My car now, with a broken TPS, very bad MAF and leaking intake gasket (burning and leaking coolant) is only getting about 13.62 MPG. I saw that they est. for the Yaris is 33/40 or something like that. Now, I live in Jersey so it would be more like 22/35 with all the red lights and dumb drivers who can't find their accellerators. LOL!!!
Can anyone comment on the gas mileage they are getting and problems or lack thereof with the Yaris?

I wonder who these "people" are that you were listening to. Yaris is a damn good car. I don't own one but I drive its predecessor which is the Echo hatchback, and so far no issue whatsoever, and fuel economy is by far the best, averaging 6L/100km (sorry but dunno what that is in MPG) with somewhat a leadfoot on occasion. The new Yaris is a much better car than the Echo hatchback, albeit a tad heavier but it's also a tad roomier (and things are a little "beefier" too).
I'll shut up now, and let real Yaris owners speak.
Just a question for you Clutch: Do you fancy the sedan or the hatchback? And I assume you'd want a manual

I have a YARIS I love it one of the best fuel efficent cars on the road GET IT LOVE IT BE IT
Hey Stuts, I'm almost getting to 50,000km. Apparently it ain't much compare to some other owners, but I drive my car hard most of the time. So when I say this car is durable, it really is
I have a yaris sedan and it's been a year since i bought it and i love the dang thing! Gas mileage i would say is awsome. About 37 to 40 on the highway. I have about 30,000 miles on it and not one problem.
I'm also considering a Yaris sedan 5-speed. At first I didn't like them.... but they're growing on me. Plus, I can get an insanely great lease deal on one directly from Toyota (corporate lease deal). Like you Clu7ch, I also wanted a Taco. But you can't deny the great pricing and mileage on the Yaris. Almost half the price and almost double the mileage (of a 4x4 reg. cab Taco). I saw one in dk. gray at work, and that was my turning point of deciding I liked them. I also looked at an '06 Suzuki Firenza (?) that I could have got for around $11k. I liked the styling a bit better, plus it has 4 wheel disc brakes, unlike the Yaris. I guess Suzuki makes a pretty decent car, but I haven't really heard much about them.
Since Toyota saw fit to hire me direct (I was previously contract), I feel much more compelled to get the Yaris over the Suzuki.
Yeah, suzuki is linked with GM (or was) the tracker and the xl7 or whatever it was was the same thing. They are imports so they are better, but not top notch.
Yeah, I'm looking at the sedan with a manual. I figure, the way I built it and a 5K downpayment, my payments will be around 250-300 (calculator on the site says 249, but that is without the finance charges, extended warrenty and service plan). The Taco, I was looking at 10K down and about 300-350+ a month. We'll just have to see how everything goes with my jobs, both the financial one and the hospital one. I am due for a raise next month, so I gotta see how much more I'll be able to save/spend.
Man, I'm crossing every finger and toe I can get that Taco. I've been yearning for a truck for over 3 years (since my last truck) and dying for a stick for 2 years (since I got rid of my last one for this shtty GM >.<).
I may just get the Yaris first to help build my credit back up and than get the taco. I just hope Toyo doesn't make any dumb drastic looking changes to the truck between now and the time I get set for one.
I finally saw one in black the other night and that was a definite selling point. I've only seen the hatch in black and the hatch (to me) looks dumb. It's too small for me. I like bigger cars, I've always driven bigger cars. I can barely get comfortable in my GF's tC (VERY nice car, drives like a rat on crack!) I really miss my 89 4-banger Mustang 5 speed. It was a slight POS, but man did that car take a lickin' and keep on tickin'! I've never seen a car run for 4months on end with no oil AND hit an accidental downshift, throwing the revs well into the 8-9K range (redline was 5600) and not break. I ran that sucker for a total of 8 months with no oil in it, beating it to hell and back.
Oh, those were the days!
Enough about the Stang. Yeah, so, The Oblongs are on, so I'm out of here!!
The only thing on the Taco Toyo can improve is the tail lights. After that, the truck is PERFECT! The only thing lacking at all is the tail lights. Almost like they went all out and when they got to the tail lights they were like, "Man, I cn't design anyore. Lets finish already and go get some sashimi, mang!" Kinda like the Celica.
^^^ I know what you mean. I think when comes to the tail on a pickup, the designers might be restrained by the functional bits (tailgate and bumper). Pretty much any pickup truck looks similar nowadays when viewed from behind, only the front becomes the real differentiation. But there definitely is room to spice up the styling of the backend.
The Taco was redesigned for '07, so it shouldn't be slated for change anytime soon.
Are you sure about those payments Clu7ch? They sound awful high with that much downstroke. $5k down on a $15k Yaris (at max, especially w/a 5-speed) should get you some decent payments. Same with the Taco.
BTW: if the Taco is in your heart, I say hold out for it.

Well, my GF's Scion was 19K and change before the financing and maintainance package thing. Her total was about 28K, 446/month
Like I said, I have to see how my job situation flows in the near future. The apartment is top priority, seeing as I have been kicked out of my house (another story in itself). With a little luck and a bit of saving, I'll have the Taco.
If not, there's
Three V-Dubs for under 17 thousand! WOOHOO!!!!
I'm starting the HATE that commercial! Bring back the "Oh! Snap!" guy!!!

Sorry to be a nic picker, but the current Taco was new for 05 so maybe for 07 it gets a mid-cycle facelift but probably nothing significant. I'm guessing the new Taco won't come out till 2010 or abouts that time. Figure about 5years for adverage for cars and trucks, although I know trucks might be different. Its just what I observed from Toyota and others as far as lifecycles.
But yeah, the Taco is a nice truck and i"m not even a truck person...well, maybe for Toyota
