Well, surprise of all surprises, you're not even safe in your driveway. I just finished breakfast today when I heard a skid, then nothing, then felt a thump through the house. Went outside to see this...
I never parked like that...
the other driver took off, "dumped a friend" at the subway station, then returned (likely realized I had his license plate and most of the bumper laying in my driveway). Cops took the report, and I'll find out tuesday whether it's a total loss or not. It's more tweaked than it appears...doors overlap, the inside of the hatch is 3 inches narrower, the seats can't fold, rear latch is pressed out so the hatch, when closed, has a 2 inch gap. Both rear wheels are bent over etc. Only one door opens, and the keyless thinks everything is open...no panel but the hood didn't take some damage.
Whoa!! I'm confused though. So who's car was it? Is the red Echo hatchback yours, bgrieger?? Did some fuckhead steal it beforehand, and then "return" the car?
Glad no one got hurt though, except for the "criminal" when he/she gets caught.
Seems to me like that Echo hatchback is a lost cause
My car. It was parked on the near side of the driveway as viewed in the first pic facing the garage. The tire marks in the lawn are where the other car jumped the curb, careened across my lawn, took out my Japanese Lilac tree and nailed my car, which spun it around and threw it into the house.
The driver appears to have been sober. His brother was the one doing all the talking though, and he couldn't explain to the cop why they had to run drop their "friend" at the subway before returning...he started by saying he was teaching his brother how to drive. His story changed a few times depending on when I listened in, so I'm not sure what charges if any were laid. I know the police used my pictures for the investigation shots though (I just picked up a very nice Sony H series camera...spectacular capability...though I wasn't really going for the artistic stuff this morning...still blew off 50 shots or so for them and the insurance co.). I think by the end the guy was saying that he had to swerve because someone ran the 4way stop...at the speed he was going he had to have run the stop himself.
There was one neighbor from down the street that witnesed some of it, and the police went to his home to interview him after they finished with us (I was enjoying coffee, bacon and eggs at the time), and I'm sure that person's story about what he saw will carry some weight. Regardless, I'm expecting the car is a total loss...but I'll know more Tuesday when my insurer gets around to moving my car.
ooh, sorry to see that, you'd think it would happen out on the road, not in your own driveway. By the length of that track through the grass, that other car had some decent speed to make it all the way into your driveway. Hope you get it sorted out -- nice car, that's the best color IMO.

Thanks for clearing that up. Damn, that sucks ass, bad luck for real, makes you wish you had parked it in the garage (unless it's already occupied by your Supra and other stuff).
Hope all the police/insurance stuff goes well without a hitch. And then you'd have no excuse to get the Yaris hatchback Please keep us posted on the situation though.
lol...yep, the supra is in the garage...about 8 inches from where the echo is now. Too bad I'm still quite a bit of work from having it on the road or I would haul the little guy out of the way and just drive it for a while...
I hate to say it, the only way I'll be getting a new Toyota at all is if their financing does something to make it worth my while, given the way insurance works in Ontario. I'm just not a fan of any of the lineup right now.
Not sure. I've been looking at a few cars, but much larger than the echo. There's nothing appealing in the subcompact class right now, so I might step up into something a fair bit larger again. 2-3 year old BMW 3 series are on the list, as is a 1-2 year old CTS. The new lancer looks great, but not available yet. Of the subcompacts coming up, believe it or not the new Aveo hatch is supposed to look good, and if the new sedan is any idea, I think it has a chance, but GM is holding off on the release, so it may lose out because it's taking too long. The current one looks like ass, so it's off the list before it even got mentioned. Impreza is interesting, but the WRX versions are overpriced, and the others are underperformers...a long shitty search begins...
^^^Sorry to hear your loss. It didn't look too bad in the pictures but...for the first time I saw an ECHO hatch! I know, I know they're all over Canada but I'm in the U.S. so its a big deal. I have to admit at first I was luke warm to these cars, I preferred the Yaris hatch, still like it but I do like the ECHO hatch/previous gen Yaris hatch as well. Small funky European designed hatch. I just couldn't believe my eyes!
I like the the new Lancer, very nice car, they're out in the U.S now I believe, saw one on the road not long ago. My landlord got a Mazda3, those are nice cars. Or if you have time to wait a little the nex Corolla/Matrix are supposed to very nice. I think because I'm a sucker for hatches, I do kinda like the Aveo hatch even if its made of shite. Can't wait to see the new one. Anyway, good luck!!
