Wife totalled her Echo last week. '01 w/ 96K on it. The buy-back is $950.
Worth it? Could I part it out for more? Or should I just let them keep it. If it was like $500 or so, I was going to buy it back and swap in a 5.0 into it for a fun project.
^^^Wow that's intense. I hope your wife is okay. If it were me I would part with it. Considering not only the extent of the damage but also the age and mileage...I guess it depends how attached you are to it and how much it means to put more money into a car that high of mileage and that damaged. This will effect resale value as its been in an accident looks totalled. I wish you luck. Keep us posted.

Yeah wasn't sure what the market was on these things, if people were looking for parts or whatever. I guess not.
I wouldn't drive it on the road again...cut it off at the firewall, tubular front end, cut the interior in half, narrowed 8.8" in the rear, mini-tubs, and a 5.0...drag racing goodness. Ah well I have enough projects.
Nah I wasn't talking from a fix & resale point of view, but more of a "part it out", and fabricate a little bit and put one of my spare 5.0's into it.
Wondering how much I could get for pretty much everything on the car minus the body.
Oops! My bad. But like the above poster said, probably just leave it. Too bad this happend, not only cause your wife was involved but also its a nice ECHO and I personally like that color on this car and some others, its a unquie color especially for this car. Yeah, in the U.S. the ECHO wasn't never really popular so it might be a waste of time selling parts.

If that was your intent than go for it. I'm sure your a car enthusiast and know the extent of what needs to be repaired/replaced. Frankly I don't understand why you've even asked this question.
Well you said you wanted to swap in a 5.0 and you have other projects, which means that either you are quite experienced in automobiles or that you have deep pockets. I hope you don't take any offense to this but I am leaning towards the experience since well....you did ask should I keep this Echo and would 950 be worth it. You can argue about me being wrong and you are only asking for input but seriously look at the demand for Echos and Echo parts. You don't need to be a car enthusiast to realize that its not as popular as the Civics, Integras, Preludes, AE86, Supras, MR2 etc. Its an Echo, I don't need to say anymore. Buy back the car if you see fit, only you can make this decision. Its worth what you think its worth.
No offense taken man. My experience goes a LOT deeper than my pockets do! That's for darn sure. We passed on the buy-back, just not worth it at this time. I have too much else going on right now...still trying to finish up a 383 in my Firebird and a turbo'd 351W in the Mustang.
i would buy the rear bumper off you if it was in good condition
