Has anyone fitted a Tachometer to their hatch?

US market Yaris Hatch

Very interested in this car, however the fact that the hatch doesn't offer a tach is a major turn down.

I heard the car has a very tall first gear, so how are people suppose to properly rev match for first if there's no tach?

So has anyone done it? Does any DIS tachometer work? Or did they change the ignition system somewhat? would the old tapping OBD port trick still work?

also one major thing I'm worried about is the warranty, would installing a custom tach void the warranty? ( say, to the engine management and electronic systems ).

Thanks!

The Canadian model comes with a tach as a standard feature. Maybe you can find a Canadian Spec instument cluster on-line.

i dont think installing aftermarket tach would void any warranty as it is only connected to 12v and rpm wire from the obd. ive installed an after market tach on my 07 Yaris LB and they work great...

Nope, my Echo Hatch has regular dials (I think it's the same cluster that is used in the Yaris TS Sport in other markets). I prefer it to the digital cluster.

Also considering a Yaris hatch but no tach and drum brakes in the rear are making me think twice.

well in a car like that I don't think the drums ever gets used anyways, unless you like pulling e-brakes quite often.

yeah I was thinking the same, but you can swap them to disc (approx $600aud, $532usd). But yeah its a light/small car, so theyre good enough, unless you wanna put more HP.

I have a 2007 liftback with manual, no tachometer is seeming like a worse and worse idea as I drive.... i have to turn off my music whenever in traffic, in fact i dont even listen to music anymore cause of it, all ive got is the engine noise and its a small engine which is great but in terms of noise not too good if thats all you got for shifting.

How much did it cost to put that tach in? I've got a 2000 Echo, with no tach either. Again, it's a challenge to rev-match when well... you can't really tell what the rev's are.

Talking Tach in Echo.

$30 bucks at autozone will get you a tach. I put one in my echo today without any cutting. I plugged mine into the OBD II port under the dash. First prong on the bottom row on OBD II port is for tachomoter. Works for me.
