I'm in the market for a new car, and the Yaris is within my price range. What 1st got my intention about this car was listed in the top 10 fuel effienct cars for the 2007 models.
From the research I've read, I know to make sure it has anti-lock breaks due to standard breaks having longer stopping distance.
What are some of the experinces of other owners of this car, things I should make sure I get / if I go with this. This car will be getting about 16,000 to 18,000 miles on it per year.
Great choice if you ask me .. however the models are different between U.S. and Canadian models.. so I'm not sure what all is offered there... Personally I have a 5 door rs model fully loaded and I absolutly love it.... And I'm going from driving a Solara to that.... well still have the solara... but I thought that it would be weak but was wrong the power to weight ratio is crazy... and the handling is even better yes the gas is good aswell... sorry in a hurry to get some where but I thought that I would not leave you hanging with no response...
i was recently in the market for a used $10000 car after searching for months i looked at new yarises i ended up buying an 07 corolla instead because there are good rebates right now as they are unloading the last of the old body style your local dealer can get more of the upcoming 09s if they sell more 07 and 08s.i paid $14100 for a CE with auto and this was not much more than they wanted for a yaris. the corolla is heavier so it isnt affected by trucks on the highway as much also will be better in snow.the 1.8 is a really great motor it has alot of grunt when you need it and was quieter than the 1.5 in the yarises i drove.the fabrics are more comfortable in the corolla too.more room by far and abigger trunk.the only downfall of the corolla is outdated styling compared to the yaris. rear crash tests came out better for the corolla too.the rest of the crash tests are similar.i am getting 35 average with the corolla and i love the car.the gas mileage will be better with the yaris but it doesnt seem worth it to me.if you do get the yaris i recommend the stick as it makes up for the lack of low end torque and will wrest every last bit of gas mileage out of the engine.in europe the yaris is available with the 1.8 vvti engine

my last post was too short so heres more yaris/corolla comparisons-these compare base sedan vs base sedan.(corolla gets these items yaris does not) coolant and outside temp readings,tachometer,15" rims,am/fm cd player,1 extra power outlet,rear window defog,60/40/split fold rear seat,day night rearview mirror,1500 lb towing capable,10 extra inches in length,and instrumentation in front of driver.also be careful when comparing mpg as the corolla is an 08 and the yaris is an 07.EPA changed test settings for 08 they are now 10-15% lower than 07 estimates.07 EPA estimate for auto corolla was 30city/38 highway.i'm not knocking yaris i think it is agreat car but while toyota is trying to unload 08 corollas there is an oppurtunity to get a great deal.next year when the 09 coriolla is $17,000 and up the yaris will be a bargain.
^^^Ditto! Although the Corolla serves its purpose well hence best selling car or compact in the world. But this model is dated and its a dime a dozen so be different get a Yaris!!

I think it means ULTRA LOW EMISSIONS
anyways if it does the YARIS IS A ULTRA LOW EMMISIONS VEHICLE at least in Canada
yeah,sorry about that the yaris is ULEV2 i was thinking of the 1.5 in the fit.scion has released another option for yaris lovers that may want more power, the new XD has the corolla 1.8vvti(not dual vvti)and has the yaris chassis.check it out at scion.com.
Ya, overall, I like my sedan. I wished somethings they made universal such as all the storage in the hatch...would like to have a few extra glove boxes please.

I couldn't be happier with my little '08 3-door hatchback. I'm averaging close to 40mpg, and those numbers might even go up some when the engine breaks in a little better. And you can't beat it for the price...lol, I paid nearly the same amount back in 1983 for a new Prelude.

These mileage numbers that you guys are posting, are they for city or highway driving? What are you all seeing in city driving for mpg?
I'm considering a Yaris against a Fit.
They are within a few hundred dollars of each other on price. But the Fit has so much more as standard, including ABS nd side curain airbags.
Tje Yaris did very poorly in crash tests without the optional side airbags; I'm concerned about that.
I can not believe that in 2008 any car company is selling a car without standard ABS.
Enjoy your new Honda. Your posting is pro-Fit and anti-Yaris, isn't it?
It just comes down to personal taste and which impresses you the most after the test drive. I like the looks of the Yaris better, and the better mpg always comes in handy.
Yaris has the cheaper base price, but if you want the power package/ABS package, and the -Seat-Mounted Side Airbags And Front And Rear Side Curtain Airbags option, the Fit and Yaris come pretty close in options and price.
