2001 Toyota Echo - Squeak while driving

Hey everyone,

I am new here, just purchased a used 2001 Toyota Echo - 4 Door - Manual - Blue

Everything is going alright so far, seems like a good car, except...

I have noticed some squeaking while driving, and it seems to happen mostly at lower speeds. It is not a constant squeak, but every so often. It seems as though the squeak is coming from the Front-Left Driver's side of the car, but I cannot be sure.

I am not a mechanic by any means, so I was just wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar, or if anyone would be able to determine what the squeak would be.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know,

Thanks!

Well this is an ECHO and yours happends to be 6 years old. Also the ECHO at least for the U.S. was meant to be a low budget car with low budget material. Maybe it could be just the road you are on. I sometimes hear sqeaks in the back of mine (03') model but it depends on the driving conditions. Do you think it might be the front driver side break? Did you look in that area of the sqeak? If you're still not sure and the sqeak gets worse take it to a mechanic, might be something that is coming loose which hopefully not! Good luck keep us posted!

It's not the "change your brakes" squeal is it? For me it was very faint at first. I have an '01 manual and this spring ('07) was the first time I needed to change the front pads.

Hey guys, I have still been driving the Echo since I last posted, and the noise doesn't seem to be getting worse, but I think I have narrowed it down to when it makes the noise...

1st: The front left brake does squeal at times when it is applied...when I bought the car, they changed the pads...could it maybe just be some dust?

2nd: It seems to make the squeaking sound while at lower speeds...second gear, first gear...going through drive-throughs, etc...

3rd: The squeaking noise seems to be more evident when I more than one person in the car...when I am by myself, I rarely hear the squeak...

Any other thoughts?

I will most likely take it in to get checked, because I am going to be commuting to school for my last year.....it does drive very nicely on the highway I must admit...minus the odd wind tunnel effect though, but I can deal with that.

Anyway, if anyone has any thoughs, please let me know,

Thanks!

Paul

Sorry for any confusion that I may have raised...but, just to be clear...there are TWO DIFFERENT squeaking noises...one is the brake for sure...the other, which I have described above is the one I am trying to figure out...
