Echo control arm bushings

This guy I know who runs a small repair shop says he can replace the bushings in the Echo control arm without replacing the control arm itself. He won't share his secret. Anyone know what he is talking about? I'm assuming he uses bushings from other makes or models since Toyota only supplies control arms with bushings pre-installed.

By the way, the check engine light is on in my 2002 Echo. I'm getting a P440 code. Any suggestions what to look for much appreciated. The car runs fine.

The shop must have a source for the bushings as they are pressed into the control arm. Toyota does and other manufacturers can do this, offer only a complete unit when only the bushing or some other part can be replacing if only it were available. Perhaps by telling you what he is doing you will start searching for your own source.

P0440 Evaporator Emission Control System Malfunction

The fuel tank is sealed to prevent gasoline emissions. The charcoal canister absorbs any gas fumes, stores them. The fumes are then directed to the engine to be burned when running. The system has a pressure sensor to detect if the tank remains pressured. If the tank depressurizes, the codes are tripped indicating an air leak someone or one of the system components is not working.

Problem areas: Vacuum hose leaks in fuel tank in emissions control system. Check hoses to the charcoal canister and VSV systems. Canister could have leak, defective VSV for pressure sensor or EVAP, vapor pressure sensor, fuel tank overfull check valve. Also check the gas cap seal.

Check the seal on the gas cap first, then for broken, plugged or damaged hoses in this emission control system.

The bushing is not rocket science. Measure the stock bushing, find another doner the same size (there's probably one available from NAPA or other that is the same size). Press it out, press the new one in. Bushing replaced. Often the "non replacement" bushing on the front of a car are the same size as some of the rear ones that do have replacements available. Just a matter of finding the candidate.

I just replaced both of my lower control arms because of the bushings. I picked them both up from ebay for $50.00 each shipped. Not to mention the front bushings are new as well and this is the only way to replace the lower balljoints.

It makes a world of difference on a car with 205,000 miles on it....

It is easy, and no secret. All you need to know is to find where it under car. And buy bushing ( I bought from dealer $30something because I could not find it cheaper)
Bushing has crack where you can come through control arm. So easy job and pleasent feeling after that you can do it yourself
