Has anyone here completed the 5k oil change on their Yaris? I searched for this but could not find anything. My wife's Yaris sedan is due, and I will be doing the oil change for her. Could someone give me a brief rundown on the how-to? Thanks, I really appreciate it, as I would like to do all my own oil changes from now on.
Don't mean to be cynical, but what is there but to 1. Drain, 2. replace oil filter. and 3. Fill up with new oil?
Hmm... maybe I'll do an oil change write-up in 5K.
Oh, by the way, I just got a Yaris Sedan yesterday.

umm yeah, what do you need to know about an oil change really?? need to know where the filter is, or how much oil to put in? never heard of someone asking for how-to change oil...sorry

Dont knock someone for asking. I learned how to go my first oil change on my Corolla on 9th gen corolla dot com. I love to see how-to's with pictures because itis reassuring to someone who has never done it before or not on that particular car. I havent seen too many how to's on this website...well then again only for Tacomas.
Actually on the Yaris you have todo a series of key/peddle in order to reset your oil change light. I don't remember the series exactly but it is in your book under oil change. I have around 10,000 miles on my Yaris and probably average 37MPG Hardpoint if you have problems finding the peddle/key series let me know and i'll look it up for you.
No, I didn't mean to knock on the person. I apologize if I came off as that sort of person.
I will do one definitely for 5k.
As for the maintenece light coming on...it's pretty much for every new toy. Lets see...on the camry it's 1. turn igition to off, 2. press the trip meter-hold. 3. turn ignition to on while stil holding the meter. 4. if successful, the meter will read all zeros and you're good. any combination...the main thing is the how to is in the manual.
by the way, I did get a Yaris hehe, love the thing. going on 1500 after 2 weeks (bought new).

Did you try the above? If so and still no result, I'll copy word for word for you.

sorry for my stupid post up there...just thought it was a weird statement, than again I forgot that US toyotas have the service lights that come on. no canadian made toyotas have that so theres nothing to reset...my bad, and that description does sound like what you've got to do to reset that light.

I don't believe in 5k oil change.. especially if you're living in heavy traffic places.
stop n go traffic and lots of idling does not really show on the odometer..
ie.. military vehicles gets serviced by hours on the odometer not the miles..
Most critical information needed that nobody mentioned is the correct torque specification for the drain plug. For an 08' Yaris, I believe it is 27 ft/lbs.
