Canada got a CEL

My wife got home a few moments ago, said her CEL just came on. She has been complaining the other day that she could smell something burning, i checked the oil, it was fine(topped up and not burnt at all) Is there anyway to check the cose on my own? I remember on my intrepid you could turn the key a certain way and it would blink to tell you the code. I think there is not an option for that. help! LOL thanks in advance.

Is your gas cap on tight? It is the most common problem.

The Yaris goes into self diagnostic mode on the Evap system after the car has been shut off for a certain time. If it finds a leak somewhere in the system you will get the P0456 code also.

I'm thinking it was the gas cap, i had checked it, it was on tight, we cleared the code and it has not returned, so I'm hoping it is allright now.

I think the same issue has come back again. The echo starting acting up earlier in the week and has does this 3 times in 6 days. It will out of nowhere start shuddering/acting like it is going to stall. No check engine light comes on unless it is acting up and I'm going up a hill, and it just flashes and never stays on...

I haven't done too much yet except put some fuel injector cleaner in it. I've gone for some long drives to to see if it will act up again and nothing. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue and any help, thanks

When i had my protege the cel light was on and started blinking when i washed the engine and it started acting up really weird. Try checking the ignition cables or the sparks might be getting wet.

well, it's back. Check engine light is on all the time. It is spitting and spuddering almost all the time now, but the check engine light flashes, it starts accelerating and decelerating. I'll be driving and it starts lunging/launching on me. Sitting @ work now wondering what kind of fun I got in store for me when I leave.

Note: the CEL went out the other day when a friend of mine said he put the gas cap on tight, and it stayed off til my wife re-fueled. So i tried putting it on tight today when the light came back on, but at that point nothing was acting up, just had the light. So since I tightened the cap, it is acting up.....

Any ideas?

A flashing MIL indicates a misfire. You need to have the codes checked to see what all you have stored in the ECM.
