Did I make it clearer?
The CR-V 'hack' involved something akin to hitting the ac button twice, then turning the key on/off in some sequence. This allowed me to manually turn on the ac compressor only when I wanted it on.

Yes, now it's clear, thanks

We need a Yaris owner to chime in here. I own the Echo hatchback, and I need to manually turn A/C on with the A/C button. So I thought the case will be the same in the Yaris, where the A/C will not automatically come on unless the button is pushed. I apologize for not being able to help directly.
Does the operation manual have any info regarding this?
