2003 Echo paint lifting / bad primer?

We are experiencing several spots of paint beginning to lift on our 2003 Echo. These are not rock chips; they are areas from 1/2-1 inch in diameter where the topcoat appears to be detaching, revealing the primer beneath. The areas are too big to use touch-up paint. Has anyone else noticed this on their Echo/Yaris, or know of any service bulletins on the subject?

Ford had a problem like this in the early 90's and I think they had to recall and repaint thousands of cars, due to faulty primer.

^^Unfortunantly Toyota must have skimped on the paint job. Its thin. Yaris owners I know have complained about the thin paint job on their cars.

I have an 03 ECHO as well but haven't experienced what you are, hopefully I don't. I do experience chips of paint, namely in the front where it gets dinged up. I used touch up paint. I would either bring it to a Toyota dealer or bring it to a body shop and they can tell you what's up. Good luck!

Echo paint lifting: pictures

Here are pictures of the problem we are having. It is on the trunk and clearly not caused by rock chips.

Take it to the dealer. If they give you a hassle try to contact Toyota themselves or threaten to report Toyota or the BBB about that dealership. It may be harsh but there is no excuse for this to happen. I bet they will try to put the blame on you but don't let them. I haven't seen such stuff on my car.
