I have a 2001 2 door echo, and it accelerates slow as hell. Is there anyway to improve it to something reasonable with out having to spend too much money.
stock GTI...you might have a shot at an old 8 valve, with some moderate spending you might have a chance at a 16 valve (certainly few to no guarantees though), but a 1.8T or VR6 is so far out of the realm of possibilities you dont' even know. Try putting in 5-7k to even hang with a stock one.
I need to be able to beat a stock GTI and Im not really trying to gut the car.
Not gonna happen, even if you gut the entire Echo so that there's no seats to sit in and no steering wheel to steer the car.
You'll have to bet on the GTI driver being a total retard (and yourself NOT being a retard).
You might have some chance against a stock GTI if you drive a Corolla XRS.
Bottomline, don't bother if it's a drag race, but in a winding short racing circuit you might have a chance of keeping up with the GTI if you do do some weight-shedding.

the gti is an older used one. Do I have any chance at all?
Hard to say......like Bob said, you might have a chance if it's the older 8-valve ones. Your chances diminish even more if it's an automatic transmission.
It'd be better to take your losses and not race, even if it's among friends.

you really would need to spend a lot but you could start with a new set of lighter pulleys a cold air intake new tires you could remove your rear seat um.. new headers a lot of stuff nitrous would be your best bet its cheaper you wont blow up your car but you can mess it up so be careful
^^^ i like adding stuff to my car but i only do it to go fast or i do it to race people with the same car but i think racings kind of gay if its not on a track

Plus it's dangerous, let alone criminal.
