I'm trying to find a better way to hook up my iPod to my car stereo so I'm wondering if my 2000 Echo (Sedan) has an Aux In on the stock audio system. If not, Is there a way I could put one in?
To my knowledge the ECHO doesn't come with stock audio aux in. Remember this was the time the ipod didn't exist. Plus most carmakers at the time didn't have as a wide spread as they do today. The big marketing thing today is can you hook up your mp3 player to your cars audio. So no.
But you can get one if you get an aftermarket receiver that has one.

If your Echo has a tape deck, there are cassette tape adapters which look like a cassette, but actually have a standard audio cable coming out so that you can connect your iPod. I did this in my old Tercel with an iPhone, and it worked alright.
there are options like an fm transmitter and you have a lot of options in that market for the ipod. some even act as chargers.
avoid in-line fm modulators that actually have to be installed, i have been told by a professional installation tech/salesmen the quality is horrible
youre probably better of just getting a new deck installed all together. if you just want auxuillary in and not an actual ipod connection you can pick up a Pioneer 1900 or 2900 at target/walmart/circuit city for about $120. those both have the aux in right on the front of the faceplate, they start putting them in the back on the 3900 and up and i think the 5900 is the first one in there retail available line with an ipod connection but then youre looking at about $250. plus $25-30 for mounting kit and harness. not to mention installation if you dont want to do it yourself.
anyway, i have a 2900 in my 2000 echo right now and the cool part is that the lighting on the stereo matches the stock hud and console lighting.

an option should be to plug it through the CD-Changer input wich was more popular at the time. Any idea if this option was available one your deck?
Also, I got the MP3 CD Player option by toyota on mine (05 RS) and dont know either if the cd-changer input option is there or not on the deck.
I am replacing my stock audio system with this and some new speakers, check it out (seems like a good buy from the reviews).I like it becuase of the custom double-din fit.

My $20 solution was to buy one of those little radio transmitters that runs off the cig lighter. And then use the ashtray to stick it in there and your music player, if that helps?
I think that the Scion headunits are plug & play into the 2000 - 2004 Echo's.
The T1806 model is iPod compatible (you can control the iPod from the headunit).
The T1807 model allows a AUX input that can be used with an iPod.
