Echo engine bog?

Hi everyone, I have a 2000 Echo and when I step on the gas the engine bogs. What I mean is the car idles fine but when I step down hard on the gas pedal the engine just wants to stop running. The engine light is on and I get a "lean fuel" message on the computer scan. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Start with the mass airflow meter. If it is dirty, it may not be reacting to the sudden airflow change, and the O2 sensor sees the lack of fuel is beyond the computer's ability to compensate. Throttle position sensor may also be out of spec.

Thankyou very much!!!

It totaly worked!!! I first tried it with a cleaning slovent and that didn't work. Then my friend told me to use "Electrosolve Contact Cleaner "Zero Residue" he said it is important to use a cleaner that leaves no oily residue behind. The MAT sensor also has 2 different sensors in it. I cleaned both and now the car runs perfect. Thanks again for the help, I just saved a whole-lotta money!

Is the mass airflow meter something a rookie can clean. My 2001 echo at times when i accelerate feels like it just doesn't wanna move. TIA!
