Yes, can anyone please answer this because Ive encountered a strange problem. When I tried unscrewing the wheel cover bolts with the right sized L shaped hexagon tool, it seemed as if the bolts couldnt stand the resistance of the tool and just melted away as I kept turning them. Is unscrewing those nuts/bolts the only way to take off the wheel cover? This is urgent because I either plan to sand and spraypaint the covers or replace them entirely.

Help will be much appreciated.

hum... wheel covers are generally pried off where the wheel cover and rim meet

Most Toyotas except the new Tundra are 21mm and the wheel covers are not screwd on there cliped to the rim

You need to remove the wheel cover (by prying it up around the edge of the rim) before trying to unscrew the lug nuts, using either a 21mm or a 13/16" socket (or the stock lug wrench).
