Potential '08 Yaris 3dr owner.

Hi all, 1st post, Bill from San Diego. I have a deal working on a new blue Yaris 3dr. I just moved to the area and am going through some big life changes, so I need an inexpensive, reliable paid off car. Is the Yaris the same mechanically as an Echo or is it upgraded. Is it a dispos-a-car because of the price or does it sport the longevity of the Corolla/Camry? My possible car has the Option B package and is a 5 speed for $13800 out the door( Cal taxes, reg, ect).

I test drove a black '07 spd on the hwy and was real impressed with the power and handling considering the tire size. Mine will have the 15's, is there a big difference in driving over the 14's?

As far as mechanically different from the echo... The yaris has electric steering and drive by wire (which is throttle by wire, no direct linkage between your gas pedal and the throttle.)They added DFCO (deceleration fuel cut off) to all gears in the AT for the 08. 07s went into DFCO at 3rd gear or lower.

Thanks for the input folks, I stayed in the Toyota family but ended up with a '04 Tacoma extracab. With the 2.4l I4 and 5speed, it gets decent mileage and is already earning it's keep.

Here's a pic:
