Low Idle and Clicking

Hi,

I bought a 2nd hand Toyota Vitz imported from Japan 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I started hearing a clicking noise and the mechanic had a look at it. Apart from the clicking noise, the engine was idling quite low and it was vibrating quite a bit. We found that the clicking noise was coming from this blue thing which I have come to realise is probably the TPS (throttle position sensor) and wen it is disconnected the clicking stops but the naturally the low idle is still there.

Funnily enough, right before I started hearing this sound, I stopped at a petrol station and filled it up and i noticed the unleaded petrol smelt really bad. Could this be due to bad fuel or am I just talking rubbish?

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers
JD

you should be able to adjust the idle, shouldnt you?

as for the clicking, its likely normal....does your car have an aftermarket intake on it by chance...?

To be honest Im not that knowledgeable about cars, I'm not so sure about the idling problem being adjusted (even though when I first got the car it was fine).

As far as an aftermarket intake...im not sure what you mean by that but as I mentioned...I am 100% sure it's coming from the throttle position sensor (just to clarify in case im wrong...this is a blue plug-like mechanism coming out of the side of the black plastic cover where you find the air filter etc etc). I know its coming from this because whenever I unplug it the clicking stops.

Recall

I think there is a recall for that issue. Contact Toyota.
