Decelerating on a downhill???

My 2001 Echo at times begins to decelerate when going downhill as if i'm pressing on the brake? It happens sometimes when im on the highway going 100km/h+ and I release the accelerator it begins to slow down alot. Any ideas?

Also the other day I punch my steering wheel horn button out of anger and the next day after two honks it died. It wouldn't be the actual horn would it?

Quick questions: You have a 4spd Automatic? Do you hit the overdrive button by accident?

Since I don't quite know the extent of you knowledge about cars, I have to ask if you know the term engine braking? If for some reason your were to be put into 3rd gear (that's by disabling overdrive), the car will down shift and thus drag on the car to slow it down to 3rd gear range speeds.

So check if you are accidentally driving with over drive off. Incidentally, your gas mileage would be lower if you happen to be driving with it off and there should be a light on the dash.

I'm not so sure because you've also posted other problems here. So we'll start with the simplest first which is the over drive.

As for the horn... how did it sound as did those last two honks? I'm thinking you might have messed up the button, though I've never heard of horns being broken that way.

Hi Dave,
Yes i have a 4spd automatic and yes the O/D is on. The engine doesn't make any strange noises so im wondering if its the same issue another member posted regarding the O2 sensor but not sure if that would be the root.

As for the horn, I will remove the horn button this weekend and see if i crushed something. Do you know if i have to disconnect the wires to the air bags in order to change the horn button. I don't want them deploying on me as im fixing the horn button.

Look up grade logic, or hill descent logic. Transmission down shifts automatically.
