Tpms?

Just got me a nice 2008 Yaris (I had an 07, but it was just a base). My TPMS came on today when I went to work. I checked the tires and everything was great. We had a bit of a cold snap last night (50's to 20's in a matter of a day). Is the TPMS on these that sensitive that it would cause it to go off like this? The light ended up turning off on the way home.

Mine isn't that sensitive. Just make sure all your tires are equal in psi and you should be fine. If the weather affects one, it'll affect the other 3.

I'm about ready for my 1st oil change and tire rotation, my TPMS light will probably set when I rotate the tires.

If it does, is there a trick to turning it off on the Yaris? Is the system smart enough to find the new locations of the sensors and reset them while driving?

I don't see anything about a reset button for the Yaris. I have a TPMS tool and the '07 Mitchell guide, but the Yaris isn't listed, so I'm stuck not knowing what to do. Thanks.

TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM
1. General
When the tire pressure warning system detects that the pressure of a tire becomes lower than the threshold,
it will turn ON the tire pressure warning light to warn the driver.
The tire pressure warning antenna and receiver receives the tire pressure, internal temperature, and ID code
information from the four tire pressure warning valve and transmitters and transmits this information to
the tire pressure warning ECU.
The tire pressure warning ECU monitors the tire pressure warning valve and transmitters to detect the low
tire pressure of 4 tires except for spare.

4. Function of Main Components
Component Outline
Combination Meter - Transmits the vehicle speed signal to the tire pressure warning ECU.

Tire Pressure Warning Light - Turns ON or turns ON after blinking for one minute to warn the driver in
accordance with the signal from the tire pressure warning ECU.

Tire Pressure Warning Valve and Transmitter - Detects the pressure and internal temperature of the tire and transmits the measured values and the ID code to the tire pressure warning antenna and
receiver.

Tire Pressure Warning Antenna and Receiver - Receives the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter signal and transmits this data to the tire pressure warning ECU.

Tire Pressure Warning ECU - Receives the data from the tire pressure warning antenna and receiver and
monitors the tire pressure. When the tire pressure warning ECU detects a drop in the tire pressure, system malfunction or initialization mode, it outputs the respective signal to the combination meter.

5. Construction and Operation of Main Components
Tire Pressure Warning Valve and Transmitter
The tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is integrated in the air valve of a disc wheel. Each tire
pressure warning valve and transmitter consists of a lithium battery, sensor and transmitter.
The tire pressure warning valve and transmitter has a unique recognition ID code. Therefore, 4 different
ID codes are used on one vehicle.
The tire pressure warning valve and transmitter measures the pressure and the internal temperature of
the tire and transmits the measured values and ID code to the tire pressure warning antenna and receiver.
Frequency of the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is 314.98 MHz.
The tire pressure warning valve and transmitter uses a lithium battery. If the built-in lithium battery’s
voltage decreases, the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter will be unable to transmit signals.
When no signals are received by the tire pressure warning antenna and receiver, a no data acquisition
DTC is set. When the DTC is set, the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter assembly must be
replaced.

Service Tip
Make sure to install the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter in the wheel in accordance
with the prescribed procedure. Failure to do so could result in the incorrect measurement of the
tire pressure, damage to the sensor, or air leakage.
Make sure to replace the tires in accordance with the prescribed procedure. Failure to do so could
damage the tire pressure warning valve and transmitters.
A new tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is shipped in sleep mode to prevent the battery
from depleting in storage. When the pressure in the detection portion of the tire pressure warning
valve and transmitter increases or decreases by 40 kPa (0.4 kgf/cm2, 5.8 psi) within 30 seconds,
the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter automatically cancels sleep mode. Once sleep
mode is canceled, the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter cannot revert to sleep mode.
After a tire pressure warning valve and transmitter has been replaced, the ID code of the tire
pressure warning valve and transmitter must be registered in the tire pressure warning ECU. To
register an ID code, use a hand-held tester or Techstream to enter the ID code that is indicated
on the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter.
When replacing the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter, all the ID codes of the 4 tire
pressure warning valve and transmitters must be registered. Even if only 1 tire pressure warning
valve and transmitter is replaced, the ID codes of all 4 tire pressure warning valve and transmitters
must be registered again.
For details, see the 2008 Yaris Repair Manual (Pub. No. RM07Q0U).

Service Tip
The tire pressure warning ECU has two warning methods that are used, depending on the condition
detected.

Tire Pressure Detection Condition
Warning Light
Turns ON The tire pressure warning ECU has detected that a tire pressure
becomes lower than the threshold
Turns ON after
Blinking for 1 Minute The tire pressure warning ECU has detected a malfunction in the
system.

If the tire pressure warning light turns ON, adjust the tire pressure.
If the tire pressure warning light turns ON after blinking for 1 minute, it can be turned OFF by
repairing the malfunction in the system.
After a tire pressure warning valve and transmitter ID code is registered, the tire pressure warning
light will turn ON after blinking for 1 minute until the tire pressure warning system is operating
properly.
The tire pressure warning light may blink for 1 minute and turn on due to electric wave
interference at the same frequency

6. Precaution for Tire Pressure Warning System Operation
The system will be disabled in the following conditions: (When the condition becomes normal, the system
will work properly.)
If the tires not equipped with the tire pressure warning valve and transmitters are used.
If the ID code on the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is not registered in the tire pressure
warning ECU.
If the tire pressure is more than 500 kPa (5.1 kgf/cm2, 73 psi).
If the lithium battery voltage of the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter drops.
The system may be disabled in the following conditions: (When the condition becomes normal, the system
will work properly.)
If electronic devices or facilities using similar radio wave frequencies are nearby.
If a radio set at similar frequencies is in use in the vehicle.
If a window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed.
If there is a lot of snow or ice on the vehicle, in particular around the wheels or wheel housings.
 If non-genuine wheels are used.
 If tire chains are used.
