I have recently bought a blue 2008 5-gear Toyota Yaris hatchback. It started at about 100 hp stock. I installed a carbon fiber shift knob, silver-star headlights, and a 3A racing muffler. The muffler added an EASY 5 hp, if not closer to 10. And it sounds WAY louder and more agile. I am waiting the delivery of my cold air intake, all around 2" lowering springs, a voltage stabilizer (yes... I know to connect it to the alternator), and I am about to order a fin style antenna. I want to eventually order some 16" rims and some 205/ 50?16 hancooks. Is there anything else I can do for power? Does anyone else know? There are some sweet looking tail lights out there I will buy next month, and I will eventually put tint in it, but that will; all come in time. For now, anyone with any idea on where to buy a lightened flywheel or anything to help improve power, please enter a reply to the forum and lets get this party started.
I do know larger wheel/tire combo will slow you down(and reduce fuel economy), but will increase your cornering capabilities. Lightweight flywheel clutch combo will increase response, however your fuel economy will decrease further because you lose momentum of the engine by lightening the flywheel. Power increases will be difficult on this engine without forced induction. If you can find someone who will tune your computer for you, that will help a small amount, although in this application the computer will do all that it can to fuel trim all of the settings.

E_Gatzke, the muffler will do NOTHING for HP. Also the CAI will add tops 1-3 HP and not worth it. The bigger tires will mean LESS TORQUE, less power at the wheels, silly. Just be happy with the high MPG...grow up boy ;-)
Have you even looked at the stock muffler? The air goes in, does a 180* turn, comes out, and does another 180* turn. And the pipes are all small. I did increase some serious horse power, and after I added the cold air intake, it revs up WAY faster because the stock intake has two filters (and they are impossible to breath through, much less for the car to suck air through) and there's some serious power to weight ratio going on right now. The 2" lowering kit helped a LOT in the way of looks, turning capabilities, and aerodynamics. My car beat a 5 gear mustang on the highway about 3 days ago. I know the guy I raced, and I totally smoked him. The high voltage stabilizer helps out when switching gears, playing the radio, using headlights, and all that great stuff because my car doesn't raise it's RPM's to keep up with the voltage change. If you think I am full of bull, I live in Olympia Washington, and work as a manager at a Wendy's in Puyallup Washington. Trade me keys for a test drive anytime, and I will make a believer out of anyone that the things I did to my car REALLY help. I also average 40 MPG in my car now, and I am NOT easy on the gas by any means. I will take pics of my car and post them on here after I get back from the field i August (I leave this weekend for 30 days) and will be happy to not only argue the fact that my Yaris is now quick, but prove to you in any way I can.

Reason: added sentence
Not sure why you would buy a car that excels in fuel economy then try to make it a muscle car,but i would imagine there are turbo and nitrous kits that could be added, maybe an engine swap, suspension up grades,a few weekends at drivers school would all help to increase the driving experience of your Yaris.
For me the Yaris is an economical urban daily driver,if i wanted a more powerful car there are better options.

So you are saying that your Yaris with a fancy muffler would out perform a stock 5 liter Mustang in a quarter mile drag race?.Maybe a little more elaboration about the race would be enlightening as i can imagine several scenarios in traffic where my stock Yaris sedan could come out ahead of a 5 liter Mustang but in a serious race at the track with no other cars around the Yaris wouldnt stand a chance.
First off, it wasn't in traffic, we had a nice open road ahead of us. Second, we were both already doing 65, maybe a little better, and I dropped to third while he dropped to fourth. Third, just about any rear wheel drive car could beat a yaris in a drag race, retard. Front wheel cars, especially the 2200 lbs yaris (mine is about 100 lbs less) SUCK at take offs. I beat him because I have 1/2 the weight he does, and the gears are closer together, and we were already going pretty fast (65 or so). My car sounds loud, burns the tires in first gear all day long, and and has the power and air flow to keep going at high speeds. (And, genius, 2002 mustangs are 4.6 liters, not 5.0) Do you know anything at all about cars? I know it sounds stupid, but replace your intake with a cold air, and cut the muffler off your car and replace it with a 3A racing muffler, or something else that is close to the same performance, then try racing it. Your car will breathe so much easier. It's like running with your nose plugged and a sock in your mouth vs running with an oxygen tube under your nose. There is a VERY noticeable difference. The Yaris is different, unique, and few have tried to fix them up. It's a challenge and a fun hobby.
There is no need for an engine swap on these cars, because it is already near perfect. Have you looked under the hood? It is a 1.5 liter, which means it is small and therefore light. It is a VVT-I, which is variable valve timing (more air at higher RPM's). The intake is on the front of the engine and the exhaust is on the rear, just like the honda K-series engines. Engine heat gets pulled away from the car in a much straighter line, and the air going in stays MUCH cooler, since it is in the front of the engine bay. There is TONS of room to fiddle around with the pulleys, flywheel, intake, exhaust, transmission, valve cover, spark plugs, and all the other wonderful things engines have. Engine swap? No thank you. The engine size is one of the best parts of the Yaris. The intake (who the heck needs two air filters?) and the muffler (I don't quite understand it's design either) are the two worst parts of it. It is pretty roomy though, and light, and you can get parts for it if you search for them. (I have 2 inch lowering springs on my car right now) I plan on doing some engine accessory parts replacing here soon. The lightweight flywheel and pulley set up by non stop tuning are very nice, and the price is alright too. I don't want forced air on my ride, because it is just funner this way. But to each, his own.
Thanks for the clarification but is calling me a retard and making snide comments really necessary?
I think you should maybe state that in certain conditions a Yaris is faster than certain Mustangs
as the hp ratings for the 4.6 v8 range from 260 to 390 and the v6 puts out about 190/200hp
I am sorry for being rude, but it really sounded like you had no clue what you were talking about. If you ever want advice on how to make your car faster, stronger, or more efficient, just let me know. I am more than happy to give advice, as well as get advice from others. It has been a long hard journey doing the work to my car I have done so far, as so few have done it to theirs, and it is near impossible to find step by step instructions on the installation of my new car parts. Again, if anyone wants to test drive my car, feel free to ask and I am more than happy to oblige. My car is fast now, and it handles stunningly well for not having a rear sway bar or sticky tires.
