03 echo cooked motor

Hi Gize;
My daughter just fried the engine in her 03 echo.Somehow it overheated and from what the toy dealer in town says,it cooked the rad,battery and possibly the cat,as well.Not to mention what might have been done to the auto trans.I'm in another province so I can't scope it out.
The toy dealer says she lost a belt and ignored the dash lights.They want 4100.00 to put in a used engine and all other needed parts.Any suggestions as to what happened and what we should do now? The echo is a 4dr auto trans,no options.
This is a great site,by the way.I've been looking for a 22r toy truck.I think I may have to put that on the back burner

Sounds about right once you add in labor. But what belt could cause the motor to over heat like that? I don't recall the water pump being directly driven by a belt.

the battery may be damaged from being drained, when the alternator stopped.
