Okay this is multi part in consideration but which would be better a 4 door echo, Xa or new Yaris. I'm looking at getting rid of my 02 Maxima 3.5 6speed for something lighter, better on gas and such. I'm possibly thinking depending on which to start with just basic stuff to start with 15-16" rims, sway bars, shocks, clutch and lighter flywheel. And later maybe fab up a cheap turbo kit for it. Which bring me to problem one I've heard of people having problems with SAFC's are such on the Xa's is that just the Xa or all the newer ECM's? I was thinking of just using a fuel computer and a J&S safeguard with boost retard for my engine management. I'm kinda leaning toward the 4 door echo as I beleive that's the lightest coming in around 2100 from what I've read. Next the Yaris at 2300 and I saw the Xa was like 2400. Lighter the better but I beleive the echo has the worse rear suspension setup of the gorup. Any thoughts or direction you can give please do. Also goals looking for is a nice ride, confort that handles decent and in the end will run a 1/4 anywhere from 15.0-15.5 other cars to compare that I'm looking at are RSX 160HP or Neon R/T 150HP. Thanks.

Excuse me, but have you read the news lately? Gas is approaching $5/gal, so why are you stuck on this mindset to buy a small economy car and then soup it up with money wasting gas guzzling Bool sheet parts? Surely you have better things to spend your money on, right? None of the cars you listed are race cars, nor sports cars, nor the type of cars one should soup up. Grow up buddy, and find yourself better more mature ways to spend your money ;-)

I have a shop on the side so this is what I do. And in todays world those are all legit sporty/sports cars. Gas guzzling parts, hello my maxima is only getting 24 MPG average putting that stuff on an echo/xa/yaris won't be getting anything less that 28 probably on a bad tank. As for better things to spend my money on yeah I spend my money on those too boat, ATV's, Tundra 4x4, jetski. Although yeah with gas prices I don't hit the jetski or boat as much unless people are chipping in. I bought the maxima for the luxory/sport and power and come to realize I miss my small cars too much I've had 3 CRX's, 2 Civic Hatches and 3 Gen1 MR2's all of which were made to handle better and go a little faster and still get 30+ mpg. Unfortunately with all the extra BS on cars now days you can't find a decent lightweight sporty car so you find whats available take something that is a decent start and make it better, besides they've been fixing these things up in aus and jap for years TRD even offered a turbo model for awhile. So thanks for being so nice and helpfull on my first time to the site.
Also I'm open to suggestion since none of these cars are to your liking. Looking for something that will get hopefully 32+MPG on highway since that's where I mostly drive and that will handle that back roads pretty good and has a decent even slightly firm ride.

I don't necessarily dislike any of the cars you mention. It's just that one cannot legally take advantage of added performance on the street, and also that in today's downturned economy, high gas prices and such, it seems to me that one should save their money, watch their spending and such. Things are going to get worse before they get better. And if your main reason to ditch the Maxima for a small economy car is to save gas, then you're going the right direction, but don't ruin it with adding all kinds of parts and sheet. Again, it's not like you can street race legally...build your retirement plan ;-)

Thats funny.... my echo is a former echo cup race car. It came from the factory with a roll cage and what not. And on top of that i have a 4age blacktop in it now.
And you're talking about fuel economy. I get 650-700km/tank on the high way. I drop it into 6th and my wallet is happy. Yet if i need performance i can hammer down on the gas pedal and can smoke quite a few cars out there.
The good thing about that is that if i need the power i have the power. and when i want to save gas i can drive it and save gas.

Your wallet is happy? Ahemmm....the difference in cost between YOUR Echo and a normal Echo would pay for a hell of a lot of gas. It seems your wallet has been deceived.
When you "need the power"? NOBODY except for pro racers "needs" that kind of power.
