00 echo 4dr/auto standard tires 32psi. 97k. new irridium plugs 5-30 oil new fram air filter. Im over 50ty and no lead footer. I have always got got good mpg befor with other vehicals. So Im at 27 locale and only 37 hwy with this. I see others claiming to get 42-45 hwy with echos. I was getting 32hwy loaded and at 70ty with 00 LaSabre. I do run ac cuz of the 95+ in NC. and run on flat land/no hills and steady speeds. So 37mpg hwy and only me and full tank and 55mph? is something wrong with this car??? Im doing everything I can to get max mpg on this.. No codes on putor and runs like new. Have heard like some have flashed the ecm?? and this got more mpg's. if so what is this?? and others have put in a KLM air filter and got more mpg's. Have had this now for 3 weeks and get the same mpg. Any help and or clues to this?? Thanks.

^^^maybe inflate tires more. Keep your speed consistent as possible. Obviously slow starts but not too slow. When you slow down as much as possible don't use breaks, just let go of the gas and then gradually (If possible) go back on the gas. Short trips kill mileage. Also roof rack takes 10%-15% mileage even if you have nothing on it. If you have extra stuff in the car and trunk take it out. That weight adds up and kills mileage. Anything over 60mph mileage drops 10% I want to say. I constantly go 65mph and still get 40 plus in the summer. Be mind full of traffic. So don't accelerate to the speed limit if you can see ahead of you the traffic is slow or stopped cause otherwise you would have to break right away that kills mileage cause you accelerated then slowed down.

I did a 200 mile run on some back roads the other day, speeds were in the 40mph to 60mph range with no stopping,Scangauge read an average of 47.8mpg,
Did a 200 mile freeway run yesterday, speeds in the 60-70mph,scangauge read 42mpg average.
Since i started using the gauge i've really noticed how much speed and taking off from a stop can affect gas mileage. With lots of around town driving with a stop sign or traffic light on almost every intersection i only get high 20's or low 30's for mpg.

Jambo101 > was that US MPG or CND MPG? I am inclined to think CND MPG from those numbers ...

beck5012 > I know the Auto trans make a big difference in MPG. The ultimate gas miser Echos are usually 5spd bare bone no option models (keeps weight down).

I've got the scan gauge set up for mpg.
Canadian values would be liters per 100 kilometers.

A CND gallon is different than a US gallon.

That is why when you see MPG in CND advertisements it is always seems very high ... as opposed to MPG in American advertisements.

It isnt that us Canucks just naturally get better fuel economy, rather, the gallon sizes are different.

2000 Echo 5spd
CND - 40MPG City, 51MPG Hwy
USD - 29MPG City, 37MPG Hwy

CND Gallon = 4.5L
USD Gallon = 3.8L

I'm making the calculations on a conversion calculator ,it gives me the option of liters to gallons or liters to imperial gallons,i'm basing my calculations on the liters to gallons, should i be using the liters to imperial gallon option?

Hey echoknight, Have been doing all ya say befor,no racks excess weight ect. I will try the extra psi in tires tho. Only thing in trunk is tire and jack, I do need this tho....I'm only 200lbs so I'm not like 4 people. ha. Got to go to OH and back so will check mpgs on interstate, with some rather large hills thru the Va mountains. plan on 65-70 to keep up with traffic. Maybe I can getup behind big truck and ride the draft. I'v done this with the Buick and the putor goes from 32 to 38-40 in the draft. Be back onThursday. Later.

Nope, what you have it on now sounds about right ...

Youre just getting phenomenal fuel economy

I use the pen and paper method ... write down how many kms I get with each tank and do the math manually.

MPG results from trip. I did put in more psi. from 32 to 38 psi. I noticed that it seemed to have like more power and speed with the extra psi. The mpg did seem to increase from 37 to an average of 43mpg overall. Highest was 45 mpg with ac off. Lowest was 38mpg ac on and atleast 200 miles of heavy rain...
average speed was at 67-72mph. Makes a big differance at the pumps when filling to find a very level spot to fill it up and and different pumps shut off sooner than others. Trip was 1100mls and stopped at 4 different stations and locations. I have ordered a aftermarket cruise control to go in I'm like always going over the speed limit and have to slow down.
Jambo101> I do want to hear more on the scangauge thing and how close it is to the math figuring on mpg's. Have you used it with any other auto?? I saw one on eBay like at $150.00
Hey has anyone put in a seat cusion on drivers side??? Have kind of a bad back and the seat is not comfortable on long trips..

Averaging 55mph on a 200 mile trip i managed an average of around 47 mpg,(American gallon) in my 08 Yaris, that mpg figure drops substantially as speed rises as i came back on the expressway at 65mph and only achieved 42mpg. ,i also have an 01 Echo and as yet i havent put the ScanGauge on it but it is a smaller car with the same engine so i would imagine equal or better mpg with the Echo,
Check your pm
