Door Lock Chirp Suddenly Very Soft

Hi, all...

I searched the forums the best I could and couldn't find a specific answer as far as the Yaris is concerned.

My 18 year old daughter just recently bought a 2007 Yaris Sedan (her first car) and discovered this afternoon that the audible "chirp" confirmation of locking and unlocking is suddenly much softer than this morning. Also, the "siren" is very soft.

Would someone be kind enough to direct me to a possible existing thread in regards to this, or post a possible solution?

Sounds like an aftermarket alarm system, look under the hood to see if there's a speaker?

I'll double check...I don't think it's aftermarket and I don't recall seeing a speaker, but I'll give it another look later.

On another forum, someone suggested that perhaps water and been introduced into the "siren". I don't think that's the case since Houston has been so dry the past few weeks.

Also, yesterday, I "slapped" the windshield and the siren was at normal volume as were the lock/unlock chirps!?

So right now it's back to normal.
