SRS Warning Light, and Horn not working

2001 ECHO
SRS warning light came on recently, and I thought it to be unrelated to the horn not working at about the same time. But as I found after some testing and wire tracing, they both use the same rotating contacts directly under the steering wheel. I unpluged both the horn wires and airbag wires and none of them had continuity through this device. So I must conclude that it is defective, Right? So my Question is what is name of this set of contacts and how do I reset the SRS light after I replace the defective part?
No codes were set in OBD II, I think the SRS is a stand alone system and will not set codes in OBD II anyone know if this is correct?

Driver's air bag squib, I call it the spiral cable. The light should reset itself, but the code will still be in memory for a little while; there is a procedure to clear it, don't know of hand.

Codes can be retrieve from the same connector but different circuit and not with a OBDII scanner.

Lucky you it's only $399.60 in Canada

But you do need to have a Toyota OBD computer to reset the light

Fubar

I'm not doing so well with this one! after the apropriate precautions I removed the airbag from the steering wheel and tried to remove the 19mm Nut that secures the steering wheel to the shaft. I found that it was either cross threaded at factory or someone fubar'd it before I bought vehicle. Either way it has no threads left on the shaft and the nut is not much better. I can spin the nut with fingers zero resistance! I didnt get the new part yet, I had intended to take it with me because I like to get the right one the first time. Now I'm thinking about finding a scrapper for a whole assembly. I also considered cutting new threads on shaft after I remove it but that even sounds bad to me. Anyone else run into this ?

I would try a new training nut first. The shaft I believe is hardened. I haven't come across something like that before but who knows there are a lot of 'mechanics' out there.

Training Nut?

I have Metric thread chasers I think that that is similar to what your talking about. Unfortuantly there are not enough threads left for this. I can pull the nut off w/o turning it! When I get the new part I will pull the whole shaft and if I can't cut new threads on it in my lathe I will have to get a new one. Thanks

By 'mechanics' I think you mean parts changers?
