USA 2000 Echo-Bad intake control valve

My sister in law took her 2000 echo to a mechanic due to slow acceleration and check engine light being on. They told her that the inake control valve was causing the light to come on and needed to be replaced and that a module chip was needed to update the computer to get it to recognize the intake control valve all for $1800.00. Does that sound right or is there something else to try. THe car is hardly worth this amount.

Do you have the code(s) or can you find someone who will read them -then post them here.

Can you define intake control valve better? Is this the throttle body valve, air flow meter or ?

Not too quick too judge but suggest you get a few second opinions before spending this kind of money.

You cannot flash or replace chips on echo computers. The shop is a ripoff. Take it elsewhere.

I agree with all of them. P0171, a dirty or out or range MAF would be my guess!

Don't just walk away from that shop... RUN...

Now, take it to the dealer or someone you can trust to look at it.
