They should fit fine. I've got 185/60/R14 on the front and 195/70/R14 on the back of my '01 Echo. I had to take the mudflaps off the back b/c the bigger tires just barely rubbed, but if you stick with the same general sidewall height, you should be fine. I do have a set of old Tercel Firehawk rims though, but I wouldn't think they're much different than stocks except in appearance.
I used to have the 195/70s all the way around but they took away about 4 mpg, so I switched the front out to the slightly smaller size and gained it back (probably a combination of smaller diameter and lowering drag and rolling resistance).
