Canada 2000 Echo......will not idle

I hae a 2000 echo. A week ago the check engine light came on. At the same time, when i started the car when it was cold, it will not idle....it will just stall. If I keep giving the car gas, or drive away it works fine. When the car is warm it idles fine.
Any suggestions as to what is happening?

Thanks in advance.

My wife's 2001 echo did that except the check engine light didn't come on. I had to replace the idle air control valve, the idle air control valve gasket, and throttle body gasket. Parts cost me $243 (American) and additional $90 labor.

I had the same problem several years ago. A code check will verify if it is the Idle Control valve.

code P0505 CHECK ENGINE light.

In Canada is was a bit (lot) more expensive.

Good luck.

Many times the valve can be cleaned with carb spray.
