Stick shift overrevs on gear change 08

Greetings:

I've rented autos and sticks from the local dealer over the past 6 months.
The auto is gutless while the stick is a hoot! But, in the 3 times I've rented the stick I noticed it over revs (50-100RPM) on gear shift and have played with it a bit to try to figure it out.

I talked to the service Mgr who said the Camry stick does the same thing per customer feedback and service inspection. What have you guys heard?
Better yet, what is the fix?

thanks

WW

My 08 sedan does it,feels like a weak throttle return spring, but there is no spring to tighten, the gas pedal is conected to a potentiometer that translates messages to a computer to speed up or slow down,i believe this over revving is just the computer taking its time to figure things out,

Do you believe it is suppose to do that? For emission purpose.

What if you took your foot off the gas a split second earlier than you are used to, letting the engine spool down a bit before you push in the clutch?

There is a claim from a Toyota employee that there is an emission factor within the CAT that injects more air causing said issue. The service Mgr says: "get the auto."

The Q is what is the fix?

Better yet, anyone got a link to TRD for these kinds of Qs?

oh BTW I'm referring to the Yaris

I believe that it is an electronic dashpot effect that is programed into the ECM to minimize the emission for M/T equipped vehicles. When you push the clutch in, air/fuel mix is still entering into the combustion, if the throttle is closed, there will be more fuel than air, which translate into rich mixture. By keeping the throttle open slightly electrically, it leans out this mixture, which reduce exhaust emission.

On auto equipped vehicles, it is not necessary because the transmission/torque converter slow the rpm change.

before you upshift let the engine/suspension level out. take it easy dont on acceleration. step on gas , then hold it for a sec then push clutch and shift. my 08 sedan s 5 spd doesn't do what you guys are talking about. also by shifting this way i can shift with one finger

i think this got talked about on yarisworld.com....its for emissions. the ecu blips the throttle to burn off an excess fuel thats left when you let off the gas and push the clutch in.

i know, its a pain in the arse, but theres no way to change it...

Dud!

Apparently, from several sources this is an emissions effect. Sounds bizzare as I would expect the fuel injection would follow the up-rev. Unless TRD has a fix, I'll get something else. What year spread of Yaris/Echo/Vitz does this occur as I haven't heard that the Scion does this? But the Camry stick does.

happens on 06+ yaris's with drive-by-wire throttles....

scion xA, xB1, and echo's have a throttle cable and thus dont do it
