Question automatic trans. fluid

Three weeks ago, i've had a accident, and my transmission pan has been pierce. The garage replace it but, instead of putting T-IV transmission fluid in it, they put some universal import transmission fluid ( I don't know if it was castrol or amsoil).

Is that ok, or can it broke-up something in the tranny, or make it act strangely, cause it do so from a week now, and it goes worse each day.

You may have to do some research online, because I really don't know. Another bet is to call your Toyota dealer or even got to an autoparts store. I was recently looking at the different kinds of anti-freeze, because like you I was confused with compatability and I found the most useful place was the internet, because the parts people at my Toyota dealership were not very informed, even about something as seemingly simple as anti-freeze. If you still can't figure it out then it might be worth just using the factory recommended stuff in until you can get a definitive answer. You know the proverb "better safe than sorry"? It might apply here.

What kind of car do you have? That might shed some light on the situation. Also, do you know specifically what they put in your car? That might clear up whether it is compatible or not.

If another type of fluid is used in place of the one it is designed for the trans may not operate correctly, this seems to be the case here. The trans clutches and brakes do not work right.

Suggest you change out the fluid for T-IV ASAP. Make sure you change out all the fluid not just what is in the pan.
