Toyota Echo 2001 Radio Powers On But No Audio

Hello,

I have a Toyota Echo 2001 but was told by the mechanic that it was made around the time 2002 model were being made because only 2002 parts fit it but was still labeled as 2001 model. Anyway, my radio stopped working last Saturday out of the blue while I was driving and listening to my regular FM station. The radio turns on and performs normal operations when buttons are pushed except produce audio. I had just driven past a cop car at the time, at first I thought the radio station went off air or the cop car temporarily jammed my reception or something then as I tuned to other stations and even CD and tape it dawned on me that it just stopped working altogether as I try to fiddle with it day after day. Any ideas?

Thanx.

I checked the speaker wiring in the trunk and sure enough there was a problem there. Took care of it, now all sounds work fine. Thanx.

Could you give a little more detail on how you fixed this? I have the same problem.

I had the same problem w/2001 Corolla radio power but no sound.
Researched & found it was common w/01 Stock Radios.
It is some component in the AM/FM CD unit, can't recall what he said it was exactly, but an electronics technician said bench repair would cost $60.00 Cdn.

I just put in a New Pioneer myself.

PS. I don't get how you loose all sound due to a trunk "culprit"
