idle problem 2008 Yaris standard

Well I bought this car with the idea that it would be a fairly trouble free ride for a few years anyway. It is what I wanted until I started stalling ocaisionally . It would and does happen once in a while. I will be sitting at a light usually in gear and I would notice a slight rough feel in the engine . I see the tach go down a couple hundred r's too. Then I let the clutch out and if it happens to be at the same time as this weird intermittant burp then it stalls but most of the time the car is fine. I talked to the service at my dealer and they said the Yaris has a touchy clutch and that I will get used to it ummm. Now I have driven vehicles for over 40 years and these cars were made for joe avaerage to get in and drive ,not be careful how you let the clutch out. If I have to slip the clutch well then the $1000 clutch job will happen years before it should.

Thanks for listening , Zarkov

Wait, Wait! Why are you in gear at a stop? I have a feeling I want more info.

You do realize that if you are stopped, in gear and the clutch is depressed-- if you lift on the clutch without giving it some gas you will stall right?? (I suppose since you've driven many cars over the years that you know this.)

I don't think anything is wrong (yet-more info may say so). The yaris is a throttle by wire system, which means it is finicky compared to other cars. It's just something that takes time to get used to.

The main remedy is to give it extra gas until the clutch catches.
