Unhappy 2000 Echo Steering Clunk

My wife has a 2000 Echo. It has sat in the driveway for the last month as she has been off work with an injury. She recently took it out and noticed a loud clunking when turning the wheel most of the way in either direction. I started it up and turned the wheel, the clunking is loud enough that you feel it reverberate through the body of the car, and it only happens once per turn (it sort of sounds and feels like a spring). Up until this point, the car had been working fine. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Maybe check joints in steering column? Might have seized up over time car not used. Try a bit of oil/grease and see if it makes situation any better. No ice/slush build up anywhere is there?

2000 Echo Steering Clunk

I had the same problem with my 2000 automatic Echo. Now has 257000 km. Mostly when turning left, heard and felt the "clunk".

Husband took car to mechanic yesterday and they changed the tables(?) still don't know what they are or what they do. But they cost $520 plus labour/taxes.

The little I drove last nite, everything is OK.

I downloaded an Echo manual with diagrams, but no reference to tables. Is there another name?
