The oil filler cap says 5w-30, a TSB says you can use 5w-20. I realize your climate allows for a 10 weight oil but using it may void your warranty. Aslo is the John Deere brand SAE and API approved?

I used 10W-30 for years and well over 100,000 miles in my daughter's 2001 Echo here in Northeast Tennessee, and it was still going strong when I traded it for a new Yaris. Surely they wouldn't bite you on the warranty for using 10W-30?! The 5W stuff is for better fuel economy when the engine's not fully warmed up.

Use Royal Purple.... Best change I ever made for my car... Pennzoil Platinum was ok... but RP is great stuff.
