Toyota Yaris bad smell (Mold and Mildew)

If your Yaris smells really bad when running the AC, its because Toyota did not put in a cabin air filter nor a mesh screen behind the intake vents to prevent the leaves from entering. If you want you can call this number:1-800-331-4331 and add your compliant to case # 0906126566. This seems to be a problem with all the yaris's and they will do nothing about it until they get enough complaints.

Or you can continue to pay over $70.00 bucks every time to have your Yaris's AC vents and the back up of leaves (which is causing the smell) flushed every year for the life of the car

my car did the same, but when I checked it did have a filter but it was dirty I vacumed it out since I couldn't find it at the local autopart store. It has really gone away plus and i get a light airfreshner just in case till i get the new filter. In Yarisworld.com there is a good DIY on a cabin air filter.

seeing as i take it you HAVEN'T been to a toyota dealer id like to inform you that TSB#0103-09 is for your same complaint and it involves replacement of evaporator. if you've been dumb enough to shell out money for a warranty job than i feel sorry for you, sir.

Canada Cabin air filter

I wish that the dealer techs had told me that it didn't come installed when I went in for servicing for the first time. Only found out about it by reading this forum and the FSM

Or it could be a mold build up in the AC system, run the fan on high with the AC on max and spray a good amount disinfectant spray into the AC air intake, i find Lysol works well.

^ in addition if I've had the AC on for bit, I would turn off the Re-Circulate for the last couple miles so the air from the outside helps to dry out the vents.

You need to combine that with turning off the cooling for a little bit. Just opening the outside air vents often will let more humid air into the evaporator than the recirculated interior air, which actually is dried out already by having previously had the moisture condensed out in the evaporator.
