Canada Noisy A/C Clutch

So far just reading here has helped with most of our 01 Echo's small problems but this ones totally whacked.
Hope I can explain it right so here goes.....
If I turn the heat directional controls to defrost and the fan on high, a/c button OFF, The a/c clutch will engage and start squeeling. It might be the belt making noise but I need to know if the a/c clutch is operating properly. It seems to me to be wrong......any ideas??

Defrost mode uses the A/C to dry air blown onto windshield to clear it of fog / condensation faster to allow the driver to maintain visibility.

It does not matter if it is using fresh or recirc air.

Squeeling noise is not good. How many Kms ?? Belt may need replacement. If belt is new, spray some water onto belt while squeeling, if it goes away, check belt tension.

I was also having a stalling problem at low speed so I decided to clean the OCV circuit filter. To do that I had to loosen the gennerator and belt to get the bolt holding the filter out. When I put it back on I tightened the belt more than it had been and the squeeling seems to have gone away. The belt hadn't felt loose but it seems to have worked.

My stalling also seems to have improved..........
