Hello, first time Echo buyer here so don't mind on question asked if it was already.
I've bought Echo Sedan 2005 with 35,000km on it, Automat, A/C at dealership, wonderful condition, outside & inside, cleaned, tunned, changed oil, brakes, and every other part possible still under warranty manufacturer and dealer's.
Everything seems great except one thing: They filled it up "I THINK" with gas before taking the car(2 weeks ago) and until today i've succeded to reach 300km on this tank and gas ODO says almost 1/4 left so just above the line.I know that after the line reserve has maybe couple of liters left.
My question is after a lot of reading here and echodrivers this is way below anybody else's Echo isn't it?
I was basically manly doing short distances, stops and go's with A/C on but still 300km is too low. In Toyota they said changed all necessary things.
I can just imgine driving it on winter how much i'd do with one tank.
Tires->185/60/15 Goodyear allseasons.
Thanks!
Thanks for reply!
Well on the ODO it was almost filled up to the top that's why i am not sure if it was TOP TOP but that shouldn't be the problem here.
Tires on the other hand that was first what a checked and 3 was inflated to 28psi and 4-th was 20?!?!? I doubt they checked that at dealers.Anyways on the door wall it says 32psi so i have inflated them to 32 yesterday but now it's very difficult to figure if that was a problem.
Maybe old fuel it was on the lot for not long time couple of months until lady changed it for Toyota Yaris. But with this Echo(lease) she never had problems as they've told me.
I'll wait a bit, fill it to the top and then inflate tires and get everything checked, after that we'll see how it goes.As i've read people in summer are getting nice figurs 500+mpg and me
How many liters left when light commence blinking?
Thanks for reply!

Two Month old fuel is not ideal to do a mileage test.
Fuel is tweaked for different seasonal variations.
Give it a tank or two then determine.
Congrats. on the good purchase.
Thanks I'll give it tank or two and then we'll see. Ithought maybe something else could be the reason but it's still early to figure out the real MPG. Hoping for better
Sorry my bad, it should be 50mpg i am not used to these imperial thing. I am from Europe so it would be 64-70 km per 3,8 liters when you convert it to metrics.

Barber is it true that 185/60/15 can generate less mpg?
I know that standard is 175/65/14 and maybe i'll buy winter ones with steelies that size, we'll see what i'd get.
As i said driving style is city drive, highways but mostly stopping and going, sometimes stepping on the pedal but rarely.
Current Yarises come with 175/65R14 (base), or 185/60R15 (w/ Convenience or Power Package), with different speedometer drive gears to make up the difference. If you allow for the fact that you're actually going 104% as far as your odometer says (if the original tires were the smaller ones), I think you'll find it makes little or no difference in your actual mileage. Most of us wouldn't notice that anyway, but be careful if you like to stretch speed limits. Many people installing aftermarket wheels and tires go for bigger changes than that in tire circumference.

well the odometer will be off about 4%....its not a lot, no, but its something. also the bigger rims and bigger tires are going to be heavier, which depending on how you drive could affect the mileage A LOT
More important than bigger wheels being heavier, they have a higher rolling resistance (there's more rubber on the ground for the car to move + more parasite drag which increases with speed). I have 185/60/14 on the front and 195/70/14 on the back of my Echo. When I had the larger tires on the front as well I lost 4 to 5 mpg.
Mine is an Echo Sedan, Auto with AC and I do a combination of fairly aggressive driving. My true average, time and again is 34mpg. These guys that are reporting 50 mpg are hard-core hyper-milers, and I don't really pay them any attention - I don't live in their world .
But yeah, give it a couple tanks, old fuel really does make a difference, and make sure your tires are inflated. Check the sidewalls to verify the maximum loads but I run mine a little over-inflated at 40 psi (max on my tires is 50). I've had no uneven wear and it does appear to add an extra mpg or so. You should be able to get at least 500+ km out of a full tank.
i run 205-55-15's on my yaris and still get about 575km in-city w/ a 5spd w/o a/c.....used to get 600+ w/ 185-60-14's on steelies. but i figure the 4% bigger tires im running now accounts for about 20+km loss per tank, so im not doing much worse than i used to
Thanks for sharing the info guys.
Yesterday i've put the full tank 33,8 liters up to the cap,so it left 11,2 liters after the 1/4 of the line is this true(if tank is 45 right?)? I've had 310km before refill. So additional 12 liters would probably give me some 150km at least?
Well never mind, so with second full tank i went 110km total yesterday and bought winter tires Toyo Observe with steelies 195/60/15 for 200$ real bargain i think they are barelly used. I didn't put them yet though(waiting november).
So i'll keep you posted how it goes with second tank.
