Tow bar wobbles

Hello,

I have a Toyota Echo Sedan year 2000, bought second hand with tow bar and tow ball....

I have always noticed that the tow bar wobbles and moves around... is this normal???
How do I fix it??

I also just bought a solid bike rack which says on the label it requires a tow bar capacity of over 1000kg... I have no idea if mine is capable or not???

I'm not sure whether this is the best forum section for this but if not let me know where should be...

Thanks!

Does the tow bar wobble and move around where it attaches to the car, or where it is coupled to the ball ? The Echo is being towed or is the tow vehicle? Sounds like a stupid question but my son tows a small trailer with his Echo. Most likely your Echo is being towed and wobbles around behind the tow vehicle: if your attachment points are snug and steering caster is correct the Echo should tow perfectly and follow you smoothly around curves.

Car -> Tow Hitch -> Tow Hitch Platform -> Ball

if the ball is loose in the platform that is bad
if the platform is loose in the hitch it's normal (a little play not a few inches)
if the hitch is loose between hitch - car that's bad

I don't think the towing capacity is over 1000 lbs but you can check in your owners manual.
