Australia AEM 21-567C intake for 2005 5dr Echo HB 1.3L 2NZ-FE engine

Hi,

My echo is stock until I ordered a new AEM 21-567C (grey colour non-polished) intake and installed it yesterday. The engineering and design in these things has impressed me considering the small space you have to use.

Its the intake for the 04-06 Scion xB 1.5L 1NZ-FE but fits perfectly with the 05 echo Hatchback 1.3L 2NZ-FE.

The install was straight forward, the instructions supplied are very clear and easy to follow, I was impressed at the ease of use. I take things slow and steady and it took me a good 3 hours to go from start to finish. Taking the inner guard off and trying to fit the intake piping through the small gap between the chassis and the back of the headlights were the most time consuming part. There were a few things I'd change with the instruction but will describe them when I post the pics.

I have taken plenty of pictures of the install and the parts associated and will upload and post them this arvo.

The sound with light accelerator below 2000rpm sounds stock. But when your half pedal or full wide open above 2000rpm sounds great! A deep rushing of air in, engine exhaust from inside cabin sounds deep and the engine revs quickly above 3500. I do like the new intake. I did notice that the car feels like it has more low end torque especially when you change gear and then release the clutch. When the clutch locks up the car has an urge and forces you slightly harder forward then before. Sometimes with no throttle input and coasting in second gear it seems it can push the car forward. Where before the car would decelerate.

Interesting though, I did disconnect the battery for the first time in years and I am running 98octane fuel (normally running 91 octane) so that may contribute to it.

pics to come...

The box

Inside

Before

Resistor ballast in wheel arch with mount attached. kept car on ground and turned wheel full lock left to get behind guard.

intake path very tight fit. ended up removing the maf sensor to fit in there.

pod attached

engine bay side of pipe work. had to cut wiring cable tie to fit pipework underneath.

Piping going below all wiring and battery moved slightly back.

MAF now on and so is the joiner pipe work. not enough length for maf wiring so I had to pull whole harness forwards. It describes how to do this on the instructions you can find from the aem website.

Wiring attached to MAF sensor and new replacement piping to engine.

Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) mounting supplied. I had to cable tie it to mount because I snapped the blue clip attached to the VSV. Had problems clipping it on when it wasnt broken. Manual suggests I bend it back.

Wheel arch cover back on. Also splash guards under the front bar replaced because they were removed.

All done. Notice VSV piping was re routed so i could tie VSV to mount.

Hope that helps anyone interested in the same install.
