Got my toyota echo today. 2002, paid 1700 for it.
It has about 100k on it but the lady was letting it go for really cheap because both headlights are smashed in. I guess it was parked on the street and someone got pissed at it :p. I think I may have gotten a fantastic deal. A friend of my boss approached me about it and I couldnt resist (The insurance adjustment will pay for itself in 18 months!)
I got this car because driving my supra and vr4 was becoming very costly since I commute to downtown chicago.
I like it alot and it seems to drive really well. I was shocked at how competent a driver it was!
Anything I should watch for maintenance wise?
Out of habit when I get a car I do the next tune up it would need regardless just to be safe. Does this car need a 120k tune up like most cars and what does that entail?

Thank you in advance
Well you'll be pleased to know you won't need a timing belt replacement because you don't have one! One of the extraordinary features of these little winners is they have a TIMING CHAIN (generally lifetime durable) running your variable valve timing(VVT) cam. That accounts for the peppy car despite being only 1500cc. I've gone synthetic throughout my powertrain and would recommend same: 5w30 engine (1yr repl), 75w90 transmission (2yr repl), silicone brake fluid (lifetime), regular antifreeze (2yr repl). Other than that just enjoy the car! Oh, and I believe welcome to the forum is in order! .... ... Dennis

Haha yup, its got the timing chain.
I drove it today on the highway in the rain. I feel like I stole the car for under 2k!
I have loads of royal purple lying around from my other cars so this will get that treatment. Shifts perfectly, thats what I am most excited about as I dont work on auto transmissions.
Other than that I think Im just gonna make a new intake and exhaust for the car (something still quiet though, no worries about being ricey). Dont want to mod too much, i need reliability.
