Odd Idle on 2000 Echo

My Wife has a 2000 Echo with about 82000 Km's on it. When she starts the car it sounds as if someone is pressing the accelerator 3 or 4 times before the engine smooths out (kinda sounds like: vroom vroom vroom vrrrrrrooooooooommmm).

Has anyone else noticed this? Any reason why this happens? I have ridden in a 2002 and drove a 2003 Echo and they do not do this. Also, my wife called the dealer and they said that this is normal behaviour in the cold weather. I am not sure I agree but wanted to get an idea from other echo owners if they have experienced the same issue.

Any help would be great

Thanks.

Happens a lot on cool mornings. The ECU just just guessing at a gas air mixtrue based on its sensor temps on startup. It will then adjust to a proper mixture based on map and O2 sensor readings. Sometimes it overcorrects. No biggie as long as the PI loop adjusts, it does. We have 150,000K on ours now with no issues other than a water pump bearing at 119,000.
