radio light problem for echo

I hope somebody can help me with this. Recently my radio display light shuts off whenever I turn my headlights on. This is the factory installed radio for a 2003 echo. The light comes on whenever I turn my headlights off.
Any idea why it would do this?

Weird. The radio back-lighting lowers in intensity when the headlights come on since it doesn't need to be as bright at night, maybe a relay is bad, so the lights just shut off all together?

The radio itself still works when you turn your headlights on right?

Yes the radio still works fine. Just all the lighting shuts off when the headlights come on.

Something else I noticed, the lighting for the speedometer and tachometer always resets to the dim setting after turning on the headlights. I used to always have it set to bright. I can still set it to bright after I turn on the headlights but it will reset if I turn the headlights off and back on.

Normal operation-
I think this is used when you drive down a long dark highway, the brighter light shrinks your iris to help you see better at night.?

But it's only just started doing this. I've had the car since it was brand new and it suddenly had these weird problems yesterday.

I'm officially stupid now. I found out the problem and it was the dash light dimmer switch set to the dimmest setting. Apparently I must have changed it when I applied armorall yesterday.

AWESOME!

Sometimes the simplest and all that. You're not stupid until you tear the dash apart and open up the radio to try solving the problem!
