transmission oil 2002 Echo Manual

Purchased 4/07 at 76,000 miles, now 113,000. No records from previous owner. 1) How can I check the transmission oil? 2) How do I know when it needs changing? 3) Does this require a mechanic garage or can it be done at an oil change shop? 4) How often replace transmission oil on my manual transmission. Cannot find a dipstick or easy way to check level or color. Any advice would be appreciated.

there is no dipstick on manual transmissions. there is a drain plug and a filler plug. first you drain all the fluid from the drain plug, and fill all the way to the top through the filler plug. its easy don't have to take it to a mechanic i would just go ahead and change for a peace of mind.

This is 100% correct however you should open the fill first, if you drain it and can't fill it you're screwed, plus it will drain faster

Make sure car is level when you change tranny fluid otherwise you might overfill or underfill.
