Winter & hvac- how's your heat?

talking to another echo owner.. one of the same complaints we had was the lack of HEAT produced by the echo's HVAC system

1) anyone else feel the same?

2) a quick google search shows the stock stat is 160
we're thinking of uping it to a 180

anyone try this already?

I find that there's plenty of heat once the car is warmed up. The only thing lacking for me is a/c performance. :|

I think it's darn cold when it gets down into the teens, and the heat works well in those temps, but that's nowhere near as cold as it gets some places. (Or, rarely, here.) If you go from a 160 to a 180° thermostat, the minimum temperature of the water circulating through your heater core after engine warmup will go up 20°. That's enough to make a noticeable difference, and it certainly won't hurt your engine. The current Yarises have a 180. Neither thermostat will have opened by the time the "COOL" light goes off, and the change won't affect the early warmup, it'll just get a little hotter before it starts circulating water in the radiator. In really cold air temps, the engine won't get much warmer than that.

It was -20c outside and toasty warm in my Echo after it warmed up (5 - 10 min of driving until it's blasting HOT air and 20 min until the cabin heats up)
