2000 Echo Starter Motor

Hello,

I need to replace the starter motor in my 2000 Echo and have found that there are two different motors for sale. One is for cars manufactured in Japan and costs ~$240 new, the other for cars made in the U.S. and costs ~$110 new. My car was made in Japan, but I'm wondering if these two motors are interchangeable. Can I get away with using the cheaper motor? What is the difference between the two? Thanks in advance.

The parts info I have does not differentiate between Japan and US models.

$240 appears to be the more common price on this starter, $110 appears to be a bargain.

Check the brand of part. Bosch and NipponDenso would be on the higher end of the cost but are excellent parts manufacturers.

Remy is also listed as made in Japan.

If a NEW starter would think the lower cost one would be OK to use.

The Rockauto website lists starters for this car. Try to find the 2 you are looking at.

Thanks for the info. The prices I quoted came from the AutoZone website (not including core costs). On that website, the one manufactured in Japan is the higher priced one. interestingly, I just checked Advanced Auto's website and they also have a cheap and expensive on ($85 and $270), but this time the expensive one is the U.S. version and the cheap one is from Japan...?
