2007 Yaris OBD

My daughter has a 2007 Yaris (auto, ~22K miles). The check engine light came on last night. Is there any way to find the code (you can find the code on my son's Jeep by using the ignition switch) using the car itself or do you have to hook up an OBD reader?

What kind of OBD protocol does the Yaris use? My brother has a reader but I'm not sure if it will work on

I changed the oil a couple of weeks ago but that is the only thing that has changed recently.

The gas cap is the first thing one should check but I don't have access to the car now. Will try that later after work.

Any other idea?

Obd Ii

It's OBD II, and uses the standard CAN Bus. An inexpensive OBD II reader is a valuable thing to have around.
